DEADLY CRISIS IN EGYPT

A month-long state of emergency has been declared, following a bloodbath as a result of clashes between government forces and ousted president Mohamed Morsy supporters.
Journalists and other victims who were not armed were killed. US government called these actions deplorable.

Egyptian security forces stormed two camps filled with ousted President Mohamed Morsy's supporters, bulldozing tents and escorting away hundreds of protesters.

Within three hours of the raid, forces had cleared the smaller of the two camps -- the Nahda camp, near the Cairo University campus.

BMW OWNERS ARE BIG JERKS

A couple of studies in America and in Europe provide similar statistical evidence that all BMW drivers are total and complete complete jerks.

The research alos found that drivers of BMWs were also more likely to cheat at four-way-stop intersections, according to the findings.

In one study, motorists were asked to identify the make and color of the car from which they have most frequently suffered road-rage incidents and BMW topped the majority of responses.

US AMERICAN AIRLINES MERGER?

An $11 billion dollar merger deal has been grounded at the 11th hour by US DOJ claiming it's a bad deal for all consumers.

The merger would have created the world's largest airline, but the Department of Justice, six state attorneys general and the District of Columbia filed a civil antitrust lawsuit today challenging the proposed merger between US Airways Group Inc. and American Airlines’ parent corporation, AMR Corp.

CLEAN CITY ISLAND STREETS

Operation Cleaner Streets should be immediately launched right here on City Island.

City Island Images has personally witnessed people who throw trash on the ground,or allow their pets to defaecate on our streets without picking up after them. When challenged, they ignored us, or denied it ever occurred.

Locals, community leaders and clergymen should donate time to sweep the pavement picking up trash around City Island avenue's heavily trafficked areas.

It is time for the civic association to organize such a necessary program one day of every month.

HYPERLOOP

American entrepreneur Elon Musk is proposing a near-supersonic "Hyperloop" transport concept.

The SpaceX, Tesla and PayPal founder says he envisions using magnets and fans to shoot capsules floating on a cushion of air through a long tube. Claustrophobia anyone ?

If that Hyperloop concept is ever developed, a trip on it between Los Angeles and San Francisco, California could take 30 minutes.

RACIAL PROFILING IS WRONG

Judging a book by it's cover, or a person by their nationality, or color of their skin is wrong and that is why a US court ruled that the NYPD's stop-and-frisk practice is unconstitutional.

In the court's 198-page ruling, Judge Shira Sheindlin found the NYPD violates New Yorkers’ Fourth Amendment rights to be free from unreasonable searches and seizures and also found that these practices were racially discriminatory in violation of the Equal Protection Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment.

Today's landmark decision by a federal judge that NYPD has violated the constitutional rights of tens of thousands of Black and Latinos by subjecting them to unlawful stops. The judge told NYPD to bring its practices in line with the US Constitution and seeks an independent monitor.

Judge Shira A. Scheindlin’s ruling in Floyd v. City of New York found the NYPD liable for violations of the Fourth and Fourteenth Amendments.
