Difficult Sub-Zero Temperatures Ahead

NY Governor Andrew M. Cuomo will activate the State Emergency Operations Center (EOC) tomorrow at 10:00 a.m. to monitor a potent winter storm that will impact New York State Thursday and Friday. This storm will likely produce moderate to heavy snowfall across a large portion of the state, and may also result in coastal flooding and beach erosion. This system will also add to the bitter cold already being experienced statewide. There is a windchill watch for the southern and western Adirondacks with values from -30 to -40 degrees on Thursday and Friday.

BRONX BIRTHDAY

Today is The Bronx 100th anniversary... Happy New Year, and Happy 100th Birthday. Back In 1914, The Bronx became a NY county, being officially separating from New York County.

The Bronx gained its legal identity when it became a borough of Greater New York in 1898. Bronx County, with the same boundaries as the borough, was separated from New York County after that time, coextensive with the Borough of Manhattan officially on January 1, 1914.

NY Among Aircraft Research Sites

Following a rigorous 10-month selection process involving 25 proposals from 24 states, the Federal Aviation Administration has chosen six unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) research and test site operators across the country.

In selecting the six test site operators, the FAA considered geography, climate, location of ground infrastructure, research needs, airspace use, safety, aviation experience and risk. In totality, these six test applications achieve cross-country geographic and climatic diversity and help the FAA meet its UAS research needs.

NY Governor Andrew M. Cuomo is considering closing some state highway on Thursday afternoon before a major blizzard hits the region during the evening commute, causing whiteout conditions and a deep freeze.

By tomorrow, several weather systems are expected to converge toward the Mid-Atlantic resulting in large amounts of snowfall.

NYC HAS A NEW MAYOR

Let the image of Mayor 108 fade, so the one of NYC's new Mayor 109 may finally begin to shine.

52 year old NYC Mayor Bill de Blasio was formally sworn in shortly after midnight during a ceremony in front of his family’s Brooklyn home.

Later today, Mayor Bill de Blasio was sworn in by former President Bill Clinton. They used a bible once owned by President Franklin Delano Roosevelt.

Bill de Blasio is the first Democrat to be sworn in as Mayor of NYC in twenty years and his administration will surely be closely scrutinized.

We enter the new year with words of wisdom from an old philosopher.

Socrates was born 470 BC, in Athens, Greece. We know of his life through the writings of Plato. His "Socratic method," laid the groundwork for Western systems of logic and philosophy. When the political climate of Greece turned, Socrates was sentenced to death by hemlock poisoning in 399 BC. He accepted this judgment rather than fleeing into exile.

These public servants profile people in trouble, building on fire, and many other irregularities. They have a history of saving lives, protecting property and avoiding mayhem throughout the years.
