Russia vs US

Submitted by ub on

This is not about liberals fighting conservatives, or about political wars with wannabe friends over longtime established global allies.

This is about one country trying to destroy the greatest democracy on earth while our American leadership vacuum insists on looking the other way and allow it to go their way.

Stop Press Attacks

US Senator Jeff Flake Condemns President Trump's "Fake News" Attacks on the Media. The Arizona Republican is one of many lawmakers who is retiring at the end of his current term.

He took to the Senate floor to condemn President Trump's attacks on the media, and he called on his colleagues to stand up for truth, saying that a “president who cannot take criticism, who must constantly deflect, distort and distract, who must find someone else to blame, is charting a very dangerous path.

Washington DC Follies

Submitted by ub on

You must be delusional if you really believe this is going to be a very happy new year. And it points all the way to King Lear, written by Shakespeare about a descent into madness after bequeathing to his kids based on their flattery of him, and thereby bringing tragic consequences for all. A man who prefers to use fear, but masters something more near and dear... GOLF?

Liberty and Justice for All

When I arrived legally in this great country from Cuba with my family, I learned many American phrases. One, my parents taught me was "I know nothing about politics" and as I grew up and learned how to speak English, I watched my folks work hard to realize the American dream.

We left everything behind in our Caribbean island paradise known as the Pearl of the Antilles, following Fidel Castro's rise with his Russian based authoritarian regime, who many didn't recognize until it was too late.

CSI USA

The United States of America must conduct an investigation and consider canceling special interest influence and donations. These culprits are spreading cancer and endangering our government by increasingly infiltrating our political system of government.

Special interests are the predatory animals which are devouring our democracy. Some of these toxic groups direct public policy and increasingly play a destructive part in the development of political and social systems. Special interests are demeaning and patronizing. They've gone wild and are now dangerous and out of control.

GOP Voodoo Economics

Submitted by ub on

The GOP has pissed on us, oh sorry, has passed a bill overhauling the federal tax code in wee hours this morning, following a series of last-minute handwritten changes, without any public hearings, or advice from the experts and relying on lobbyists who work for special interests. Fifty-one senators voted for the "Tax Cuts and Jobs Act," with just one Republican, Bob Corker of Tenn, who voted against it. No Democrats supported this legislative disaster. This bill is political Russian roulette, which may cut social security and Medicare.

The bill differs significantly from the version the House passed on Nov. 16. of the "Tax Cuts and Jobs Act" by a vote of 227 to 205. Thirteen Republicans voted against the legislation, most of them from high-tax states likely to be negatively impacted by its provisions. No Democrats supported it.

The House and Senate's bills will now go to conference to be reconciled into a single piece of legislation for the President's signature. If a version of the overhaul does become law, it would be wrong, oh sorry, rewrite of the federal tax code for the first time since 1986, allowing the rich to get richer and hurting the middle class.

Here we go again. The Republican's proposed tax cuts sound and smells too much like my old boss' George H.W. Bush cliché, Voodoo Economics, that cutting tax rates will increase revenues. How many rich people in America are avoiding paying taxes and will balk at the opportunity to hire or offer salary increases? Get real people, it's a trickle down lie.

Welcome Back POTUS

Embattled presidents have often looked to foreign trips to get their groove back. George H.W. Bush on Donald Trump: 'I don't like him.' http://mashable.com/2017/11/04/george-hw-bush-donald-trump-blowhard/#Pj…

Does @realDonaldTrump hope his Asia jaunt creates a runway to get tax legislation off the ground?

Happy Anniversary?

Feliz Cumpleaños, 生日快乐, Happy Birthday @POTUS... It has now been a year since @realDonaldTrump began his transformation. Today is the first day of the rest of president Trump's political life as he marks the one-year anniversary since he upset Hillary Clinton in the 2016 presidential election.

While some things remain the same from last year’s campaign, such as Trump’s critiques of the establishment and his Twitter tirades. Since taking the oath of office he has tweeted too many times including deleted and retweets. Trump has tweeted 2,461 times since the election. Here's a breakdown of his Twitter use https://usat.ly/2hQfS8a

I worked in Washington, DC as a GM/15-10 while serving under a Republican president, but I have no political affiliation. I can tell you that Trump has transformed our national capital into a city of cultural warfare and abuses the term “fake news” to alienate real journalism like no one has seen since Richard Nixon and remember what happened to him.

I'm no politician, but over the years as a veteran journalist, I have seen up close and personal some of the most famous as well as the infamous ones. From very real presidents to appalling dictators.

There is a difference between being president and acting more or less presidential. There is also a "Bigly" aka really huge difference between so-called reality TV and broadcast journalism. One is the real deal and the other can often be staged to fool viewers. Believe me, that I can tell you!

Election Day Votes

Submitted by ub on

Happy daze are here again, so let us hope there is no suspicious activity surrounding this one and while today's races may not have anywhere near the buzz as a presidential election, there are plenty seats and important issues at stake.

Voters from many cities and states around this great country will vote for their chosen local representatives, while New Jersey and Virginia will choose their next governors. The battle for Virginia's governor will be of particular interest as many are calling it a bellwether for Trump's impact on midterm elections in 2018.

Don't Be Rushing US

What is the reason for the Trump administration's tiny steps toward imposing sanctions targeting Moscow under a new US law by sending Congress a list of entities linked to the defense and intelligence arms of the Russian government?

It is the world’s largest nation, and perhaps POTUS has a vision many Americans have yet to see, like the fact that Russian borders European and Asian countries as well as the Pacific and Arctic oceans. Its landscape ranges from tundra and forests to subtropical beaches.
