The National Convention launch for The Democrats hit a home run with the bases loaded. Starting with the national anthem and wrapping up with former First Lady Michelle Obama who spoke truth to power, where she called on all Americans to support @Joe Biden and @Kamala Harris #BidenHarris2020 and wrapping up with Stephen Stills and Billy Porter and a closing prayer by Reverend Jerry Young. Democracy is a team sport, added Governor Gretchen Whitmer.

Vote By Mail

This is National Vote By Mail Day, but every day should be the same. Our democracy is fundamentally tied to our right to access and freely cast a ballot. This year, that right is in jeopardy. As we enter uncharted waters in which elections that traditionally rely on face-to-face contact must shift to elections that allow us to avoid in-person contact – we are forced to place a greater priority on accessible remote voting. This year, we are proud to join a national push to celebrate Vote By Mail Day on Tuesday, July 28.

SCOTUS on Electoral College

Submitted by ub on

Back in 1952, SCOTUS ruled that states do not violate the Constitution when they require electors to pledge that they will abide by the results of the popular vote. But the justices had never before decided whether it was constitutional to enforce those pledges.

Today the high Court said 538 people who cast the actual votes for president in December as part of the Electoral College are not free agents and must vote as the laws of their states direct.

MAIL IN VOTING

Democrats, as well as Republican lawmakers, are calling on the USPS to immediately reverse operational changes that are causing delays in deliveries across the country just as big volume increases are expected for mail-in election voting.

Because there are no guarantees concerning #COVID19 our best option is better to be safe than sorry. Therefore, vote by mail.

All USA citizens should meet the requirements and as long as the local deadlines are met, they should receive absentee ballot applications automatically.

POTUS Narrowly Acquitted

The Republican-controlled U.S. Senate narrowly acquitted POTUS in his historic impeachment trial. There were two charges brought against the Republican president that forced senators to vote on whether to remove him from office.

The Republicans narrowly voted to acquit him for his request that Ukraine investigates political rival Joe Biden, a contender for the Democratic nomination. One member of the GOP Senator Mitt Romney joined the Democrats by voting for conviction. No Democrats voted for acquittal.

Does America long for a day when every vote counts and for majority rule to be the law of the land? Do We The People want our Democratic elections protected from the foreign intervention? If so, say so the best thing to do now is to speak up before it is too late.

Is the Grand Old Party involved in a criminal enterprise? Will Americans allow The Republicans to turn the US into a Banana Republic?

Electoral College Failure

Submitted by ub on

The Electoral College is a mechanism established by the #USA Constitution for the election of the president and vice president of the United States by small groups of appointed representatives, electors, from each state, including the District of Columbia.

Some say #ElectoralCollege was cooked up by slave states included in our Constitution to hold onto power. What say you?
