Why is it that after an unfortunate natural disaster, the same public servants that we have elected continue to allow the companies who contribute to them to treat citizens the way they do.

Why is it that these same public servants seem to think that the only thing they have to do is show a little sympathy and concern, like offering some free ice, or advice?

It's time to hold all public officials accountable for their inaction, or lack thereof and run these powerless leaders out of office .

IMPORTANT NOTICES:
The New York City Office of Emergency Management released a list of places in Brooklyn, Staten Island and Queens where residents will be able to pick up both food and water.

The locations are as follows:

West 25th Street and Surf Avenue in Brooklyn from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.
King and Verona streets in Brooklyn from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.
Mill Road and New Dorp Lane in Staten Island from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.
Yetman Avenue and Hylan Blvd in Staten Island from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.
Beach 51st Street and Rockaway Beach Boulevard in Queens from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Con Edison now expects to restore the vast majority of customers, some which are classified as entire buildings, before next weekend. However, the rest of the remaining customers could take an additional week?

ConEd says it expects to restore power to Lower Manhattan customers before Saturday.

900,000 customers lost power due to the storm in New York City and Westchester County. 250,000 now have power, with 650,000 to go.
More than 100,000 power lines were knocked down, according to ConEd.

City Island Power Failures

In City Island, NY the electricity was back on and then quickly went off less than two hours earlier today. WARNING DRIVERS: Some City Islanders were lining up for hours at the pump to get gas. NYC officials are asking to please stay away from city beaches and waterways.

ConEdison says they are working on this and many other areas after many downed trees have cause power failures all over the area.

ConEd says the water damage to the substation on 14th Street and Avenue C in lower Manhattan dims the outlook for restoring power to areas that have lost it.

Notification issued 10/31/2012 PM. Due to flooding and power related shutdowns caused by Hurricane Sandy, waste-water treatment plants and pumping stations have discharged untreated waste-water into New York City waterways. The New York City Department of Health & Mental Hygiene advises that direct contact with the Hudson River, East River, New York Harbor, Jamaica Bay and the Kill Van Kull for recreational activities such as swimming, canoeing, kayaking, windsurfing, or any other water activity that would entail possible direct contact with the water should be avoided until further notice.

While the worst of Hurricane Sandy has passed, we are now facing an unprecedented recovery effort in New York City.

Thanks to a pro-active approach to the storm, President Obama and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) quickly declared New York City a major disaster area. This declaration makes residents and businesses eligible for vital disaster assistance, including home and property loans, help with finding and paying for temporary housing, and business loans.

THE INTERNET

The idea of the Internet started in the early 1960’s. J.C.R. Licklider, an MIT student, first proposed a global network of computers in 1962. He then moved over to the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency later in 1962 to head the work to develop it. Leonard Kleinrock, another student at MIT, developed the theory of packet switching.
