13 people were killed today, including this gunman during a Washington Navy Yard shooting rampage.

The Washington DC gunman is 34-year-old Aaron Alexis. The Navy says Alexis was discharged after serving as a full-time reservist from 2007 to 2011.

Alexis left the Navy on Jan. 31, 2011, as a petty officer 3rd class. It's not immediately clear why he left. He was working for the fleet logistics support squadron No. 46, in Fort Worth, Texas. The Navy says his home of record was Flushing, Queens in New York City.

GIVING

It certainly says something about the state of Hollywood today that a three minute ad produced at a fraction of the cost of most movies is more moving and poignant than almost anything the big studios have to offer.

The Thai telecommunications conglomerate True is getting rave reviews worldwide for its latest spot, "Giving," which tells the story of a man unexpectedly rewarded for a lifetime of good deeds he performed without expecting anything in return.

TrueMove too says it "believes in the power of giving without expecting a return."

IMPROVE YOUR SLEEP

Submitted by ub on

Remember when you could fall asleep as soon as your head hit the pillow and not wake up until the alarm went off?

As we get older, it becomes a little harder to fall asleep and stay asleep. But although our sleep patterns change, our need for sleep doesn’t. Just like diet and exercise, a good night’s sleep is essential for your good health, for keeping you alert and energetic, and for building your body’s defenses against infection, chronic illness, and even heart disease.
