As the Latino population in this country surpasses that 50 million plus figure, the number of Hispanic-owned businesses in the U.S. is now expected to nearly double in the past decade.
That’s the finding of a recently released study by the U.S. Hispanic Chamber of Commerce and Geoscape, a company that provides demographics data. The findings analyze U.S. census data and other information and projects nearly 3.2 million Hispanic-owned businesses in this country this year, up from nearly 1.7 million in 2002.
Fill Up the Food Banks" food drive is underway! In observance of Mother Teresa’s 103rd birthday, I am teaming up with Assemblyman Mark Gjonaj, asking area residents to bring donations of nonperishable food (pasta, sauce, soup, canned fruit and vegetables, cereal, etc.) to the corner of Lydig and Holland Avenues, beneath the street sign reading “Mother Teresa Way,” at 11 AM on Monday, August 26. We will be there, along with volunteers, to collect the food and deliver the donations to the Jewish Community Council of Pelham Parkway food pantry.
We’ve had the same telephone number all these years. We’ve survived the wash-and-wear and machine dry cleaning eras, as well as the Depression and World War II. I love people and I’m with my customers either in the store or when I’m picking up or delivering clothes to them mornings and evenings.
