SCOTUS Battle Supreme

Submitted by ub on

Veteran US Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy announced his resignation and the battle line are not being drawn.

He was appointed by Ronald Reagan and considered to be somewhat of a conservative, but Kennedy was better known for his generation-defining liberal opinions.

Kennedy has also been called the man in the middle and appropriately finds himself the middle of a chaotic fight between Republicans and Democrats, which will not be settled any time soon.

I live in The Bronx, which has a majority Latino population. As World Cup fever increases, I hear many radios and TV sets carrying the games in Spanish. These sounds remind me of the days I served as executive producer with Univision Television Network.

The US House of Representative members is expected to hold a vote on an immigration bill that may keep migrant families from being separated as they cross the U.S.-Mexico border.

GOP leaders are light on details with their latest version of the bill, which is an attempt to find a compromise between immigration hardliners and moderates in their party to fund Trump's border wall, provide real border security and strengthen immigration enforcement inside the #USA

Occasionally New Blue Blood

Occasionally, the Democrats need new blue blood and this one can be classified as the future is female as an old establishment male crashed after losing touch with his New York constituents during double-digit terms in The US House of Representatives.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez worked as a bartender, and around a year later, she defeated the likely next Speaker of the House. This intelligent, street-smart and attractive victorious candidate is Socialist Latina Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a 28-year-old New Yorker, who could become the youngest woman ever elected to Congress.

Always Check It Out

False information spreads like wildfire across social networks, particularly during primaries, midterm, and general elections.

I learned a long time ago never to believe everything you're told or read until I become engaged in checking all facts. I reject terms like fake news, witch hunt, the enemy of the people.

Never has it been easier than now to do just that. This is the reason I emphasize to all my students to become involved in an exhaustive fact-checking process. Everyone should be doubling down on facts.

Let'm Eat Flour

First came the cake, then the flowers. Now The US Supreme Court has ordered a new lower court hearing for a florist who refused to service a gay wedding. Flour is made by grinding raw grains and used to make different foods, including cakes.

The US Supreme Court is the highest federal court according to the Constitution and has discretionary appellate jurisdiction over all court cases involving issues of jurisdiction over a small range of cases.

Reportero Sincero Habanero

Like my initials RS, soy Reportero, Sincero y Habanero means I was born in Habana and I am a sincere reporter. I’m also hot blooded though by no means the hottest.

This Habanero may have been first cultivated thousands of years ago or so-to have subsequently spread all around Earth, in The Caribbean, The Americas, as well as throughout other nations in Europe and Asia.

My birthplace was once a major trading port known as La Habana, CUBA and to this day it conjures up images of a gorgeous city ravished by history and politics.

Women Drivers

Years ago, when I began to drive, a woman driver was a negative condition that stayed with most females for their entire lives. It seems like this sexist joke has been around forever and people thought it was OK to make fun of their driving abilities, or as most would characterize it - a lack thereof.

Fine Food For Thought

Feed the planet and fight food waste. Every year some six billion pounds of U.S. fruits and vegetables go unharvested or unsold, often for aesthetic reasons. Ugly fruits and vegetables could help solve international hunger. A third of the planet’s food goes to waste, often because of its looks. That’s enough to feed two billion people.

These are the results of the annual World’s 50 Best Restaurants awards were announced before an invited audience in Spain.
