PLEASE DONATE YOUR OLD CLOTHES

Submitted by ub on

NYC residents throw away approximately 200,000 tons of clothes, towels, blankets, curtains, shoes, handbags, belts, and other textiles and apparel every year. Why New Yorkers sometimes choose to toss out rather than donate their unwanted clothes is believed to be a matter of convenience.

Re-fashion NYC is a partnership between the City of New York and Housing Works exit graphic to make clothing donation as easy as possible through convenient in-building drop-off service.

City Island's Annual Blessing of The Fleet

Submitted by ub on

The weather held up long enough to allow the different religious representatives from several of City Island's congregations to gather at one of our local marinas. They assembled there for the annual blessing of the fleet, along with officials from The City Island Power Squadron and members of the American Legion Hall, located at 550 City Island Avenue.

This community attraction does not receive the recognition, which it deserves. Vendors will be selling some fantastic cuisine, and City Island Images hopes that Bronx residents come out and stroll around, take a look at some of the wares, and taste some of the delicious foods.

STOP PLAYING WITH OUR SAFETY, MR. MAYOR

Submitted by ub on

It appears that every time it looks like our City Island Ladder Company 53 is going to be eliminated, activists members from our local community save it from the chopping block, but threatening and bullying our citizens is no way to treat City Islanders, Mr. Mayor.

Why do you think that hundreds of City Island residents converged on Ladder 53 at 169 Schofield Street and then again at Lido Restaurant, calling for Ladder Company 53 to remain open 24-hours-a-day, seven-days-a-week, 365 days a year?

GOOD NEWS FOR CITY ISLANDERS

Submitted by ub on

Twenty NYC fire companies, including three in The Bronx, have been saved from proposed cuts citywide.
Mayor Bloomberg's budget proposal for 2012 included these fire companies, which were slated for closing.

Among these saved companies is our very own ladder #53 company right here on City Island.

CITY ISLAND BEAUTY

Summer is in full swing, but its not too late to transform your back-yard, or front patio into a botanical paradise. In fact, the ladies garden club of City Island has improved our look by planting new flowers along CI avenue.

All my friends and neighbors are amazed at these beautiful containers this year - I'm so proud to say that they were created with love and a little elbow grease by volunteers.. Please, send your tax deductible donations to:
