The ninth edition of Earth Hour rolled across this wonderful wide world tonight promptly at 8:30P

Saturday night, all people and public places across the globe were being asked to switch off their lights for one hour to raise awareness about the impact of energy use on climate change.

Families and organizations were encouraged to turn off the lights and other unnecessary electrical devices from 8:30 to 9:30 p.m. local time in order to participate in the global Earth Hour campaign, organized by the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF).

CARLIN HANGS IN WAHINGTON

In Washington, DC a portrait of the comedian George Carlin has been unveiled inside The National Portrait Gallery.

Carlin died in 2008 and was chosen by a public vote, edging out Groucho Marx and Ellen DeGeneres as the comedian who most influenced American politics, history and culture.

George Carlin (1937–2008) was an American stand-up comedian known for his blunt and unapologetic approach to taboo subjects, including politics, language, psychology and religion.

S Kelly and M Kornienko have started their year-long trip out is space. US astronaut Scott K and Russian cosmonaut Mikhail K left today on a 12-month tour of duty on the International Space Station.

Scientists will study the effects on the human body of living in micro-gravity for an extended period of time. It may be the longest continuous stay anyone has had aboard the orbiting platform.

PREPARE FOR BAD WEATHER

Now that Spring is here, it is time to know the risks and to prepare our home and family. Spring can bring about a mix of wild weather as it’s a time of transition; and depending on where you live you could be affected by:

Tornadoes, thunderstorms, hail, floods, lightning, heat, wildfires, and even tsunamis if you live by the coast.

A few precautionary steps now can help you prepare for weather changes:

Know the potential hazards in your area and stay abreast of your local forecast at www.weather.gov

Prepare or restock your disaster supplies kit.

It took After 530 years, but the late event was full of fanfares, music, poetry, and a special message from the Queen of England.

The proper and official reburial of King Richard III took place at Leicester Cathedral today as it was watched by millions of TV viewers all over the world.

The Peoples Republic of China blocks access to what it deems as sensitive activities, or controversial commentary. For example, foreign news outlets like DOSE OF NEWS www.doseofnews.com sites like Google www.google.com Twitter, Facebook, YouTube and others are also blocked in China.

These restrictions comprise the world's largest and most effective government censorship program. They call it Golden Shield, but this old and outdated practice has gone too far.
