As we know it is easy to just chalk every extreme weather event up to climate change, but the data tells us we cannot ignore it

there is a meteorological phrase that we often refer to this time of year: "As November goes, so goes the winter."  Meaning, the weather in November can often be an indicator of how the winter will go.

This raises the stakes even more over the next several weeks.

Hurricane Helene tore into the Southeastern US leaving at least 180 dead and millions of dollars in its destructive path.

Public safety officials are working with university emergency operations to assess the impacts of the storm.

Local agencies will also work to assess the impacts of the storm and will continue to do so.

Conditions remain ripe for tropical development in the western Caribbean and the Gulf of Mexico this week, and steering breezes would tend to guide any feature that forms toward the United States.

A La Niña winter is expected, what does that mean?  El Niño neutral conditions continued, but the transition should arrive into the fall and continue through early 2025.

The latest projections from NOAA’s Climate Prediction Center show a weak La Niña is expected to return to western Washington this upcoming winter.

According to the National Weather Service, Debby’s path of the storm appears to have shifted slightly towards the west.

Debby will continue to slowly move over the Carolinas, bringing heavy to torrential rain to North Carolina, South Carolina, and the East Coast states through the end of the week. A major flooding threat exists in North Carolina and Virginia Thursday. Dangerous heat will linger over the Southern Plains and Gulf Coast into Friday, with highs in the upper 90s to 100 degrees.
