PR Catastrophe Continues

Submitted by ub on

It has been almost one month since Maria slammed into the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico on September 20, and the US island is still reeling from the devastation the hurricane caused. As Hispanic Heritage month ends, this is what the US government finds on its plate. There are over 3 million Puerto Ricans, who are American citizens living in this US territory, which is larger than 21 states.

Dozens killed and more injured in Las Vegas, Nevada during a ten-minute massacre. A gunman unloaded from atop a hotel room on concertgoers. The country music festival is the largest mass shooting in American history. How could a gunman reportedly have more than 10 rifles during the shooting, which left at least 55 dead and 515 injured?

Help Puerto Rico

American citizens who live in Puerto Rico are making plans for an exodus to the US mainland, searching for safety and security following the human disaster caused by hurricane Maria. Americans in Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands are danger and need our help now. Puerto Rico governor pleads with Congress: "We need more help" http://hill.cm/rIp3of9

In my City Island neighborhood alone, one proud Puerto Rican veteran, who we spoke with is opening his home for family members who are arriving, including his mother, aunts, and cousins. The Bronx is located in the northernmost of NYC, with an overwhelming number of Latinos. In fact, The US Census says the NYC borough is the most diverse area in our entire nation.

Meanwhile, as Congress considers dealing with the devastation, they are pushing for quick approval of relief funding and bracing for a political financing brawl for these American territories. American Dream or Nightmare?

Will there be more deaths and increased devastation as a result of a government that has failed some of US?

There was a time when this great nation welcomed all foreigners seeking a better life. But unfortunately, the lack of progress we have seen so far and most recently the DACA termination doesn't appear to be isolated acts. Is it an anti-immigrant camp pain undermining The United States of America's highest ideals of equality?

Get Back To Work Now

Who ever heard of anyone buying into a plan in which the specifics have never been revealed? That is what politicians think Americans are going to do. However, according to statistics, many taxpayers are mad as hell and will not take it anymore.

Disaster relief is the priority for Congress as they return from a vacation some say they did not deserve to take. There appears to be an increasingly crowded congressional agenda which will force America's so called representatives to finally do some work, and that goes for the golf playing president as well, or else. They work for the people and not the other way around. House Republicans looking at cutting almost $1 billion from disaster accounts to help finance Trump border wall: http://apne.ws/mIcJW2P

First, the White House says one thing, then they wind up saying another. So what are Americans supposed to believe? This is the problem journalists face with reporting the facts. These are still changing as we write this.

Repair Obamacare

Submitted by ub on

Repeals and replace #Obamacare was nothing more than GOP Hot Air. Make no mistake about it, this vote is a major blow to President Trump and Republican lawmakers, who promised to repeal and replace Obamacare. The US Congress will not repair Obamacare. Will Trump learn the hard way that his Tweets, threats, and multiple golf outings get him nothing done in DC?

US Congress may be finally realizing it's time to move on once and for all. GOP Majority Leader Mitch McConnell is finally urging all members of the entire Senate to move on after that chamber narrowly rejected their last ditch effort to repeal Obamacare.

The US Senate narrowly defeated a bill early Friday that would have repealed limited portions of the Affordable Care Act also known as Obamacare. US Senator John McCain was able to cast the deciding vote against the plan.

Senators voted 49-51 for the bill, falling two votes short of the 51 votes needed to pass the legislation. In addition to McCain, Republican Senator Susan Collins of Maine and Lisa Murkowski of Alaska also voted against the failed bill.

Seven Year Itch

It is like a partner, or spouse telling you where they won't go, but refusing to tell you where they will. Today the GOP controlled Congress will possibly decide if millions of Americans will lose their healthcare. The reason we say possibly is that few folks know which version of the bill senators will be voting for.

After seven years of badmouthing the Affordable Care Act and six months of playing golf, the President and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell will attempt to move a plan forward to hold a vote on repealing the Affordable Care Act.
