US Exodous?

Submitted by ub on

Why are so many US Senators and members of Congress retiring at such an alarming rate? Is it for the benefits, or because of our so-called leadership, or lack thereof? There are literally dozens who have announced their retirement, folks. What's going on here?

"Retiring" members of Congress are eligible for a pension starting at age 62 if they've served at least five years, at age 50 if they've served 20 years, or at any age, after they've served 25 years. The amount of the pension depends on salary and years in office.

Dreamers R US

Submitted by ub on

Like so many American citizens whose family came to this great nation seeking a better life, I too am a dreamer. And like the majority of these so-called Dreamers, most of us have been blessed with American born children.

Why are there are 200,000 Salvadorans being forced to leave their US homes next year. Think of the uncertainty, fear, and grief facing these families, and what about the 45,000 Haitians, 2,500 Nicaraguans, 57,000 Hondurans, and 800,000 Dreamers whose lives have been turned upside-down by this administration's immigration policies.

Bill US For Mexico Wall?

Submitted by ub on

US Congress continues to seek the resolution of a problem for 2 million "Dreamers" as POTUS now wants to tie it to American taxpayers paying for a wall that he had always said Mexico would pay for.

These individuals are potentially facing deportation, but their push is running up against another one of President Trump's promise to erect a wall along the U.S.-Mexico border, which he has insisted Mexico will pay for. Is it just another one of his sliding promises like his insistence that he would release his taxes? Is he really a #VSG?

First played in Scotland, golf is a club and ball sport in which players use various irons to hit balls into a series of holes on a course in as few strokes as possible.

Does it seem hard to believe that since swearing to preserve, protect and defend America, @POTUS has spent over 25 percent of his time playing golf? " I do solemnly swear that I will faithfully execute the Office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my Ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States" Really, so what real work has he actually done since being sworn in?

Washington DC Follies

You must be delusional if you really believe this is going to be a very happy new year. And it points all the way to King Lear, written by Shakespeare about a descent into madness after bequeathing to his kids based on their flattery of him, and thereby bringing tragic consequences for all. A man who prefers to use fear, but masters something more near and dear... GOLF?

The President signed an infamous GOP tax bill into law, which as it turns out is the only legislative achievement of his first year in office.

In a new Brookings Podcast, economist and tax expert Adam Looney speaks about who wins and who loses under the new tax code. Winners and losers in the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act http://brook.gs/2p9GRBA

For a shorter take, listen to Richard Reeves weigh in on why the bill is pure politics, and simply a boon to corporations and the wealthy. Republican tax bill is a boon to the rich http://brook.gs/2p7xRwS

The Nightmare Before Christmas

Submitted by ub on

Back in the good old days during this season, the US ratified the Thirteenth Amendment, forever abolishing slavery in the United States. Now, American taxpayers have become slaves to big business after special interests wrote and made sure their "Yuge" tax bill was approved by our so-called representatives, which apparently never read it first.

The move has been called the art of a steal by Trump's hometown newspaper, but it can also be called robbing the hood, the engine, or just plain carjacking. Republicans in Congress delivered their epic overhaul of tax laws, bringing "Bigly" cuts for business, and tiny ones for middle-class Americans. No public hearings and no time for our independent government experts to analyze it.

Did fraudsters out in full swing and ready to steal our holiday cheer and we allowed them to get away with it? Those who swore to work in our best interest have allowed steep tax cuts for businesses and for the wealthy. There were no public hearings held on this tax bill as it stands. The US is about to pass the $1.5 trillion tax bill, and send it to the President's signature by Christmas.

Shame on @SpeakerRyan @HouseGOP, @SenateMajLdr @SenateGOP and on @POTUS and @realDonaldTrump
who refuses to show us his returns. What are you hiding? DoYouPay? #ShowMeTheMoney. #TRUMPTAXES

This tax bill is a win for donors, corporations, and the one percent. Its a win for corporations and a loss for the average American and will be a loss for you next year.

"The test of our progress is not whether we add more to the abundance of those who have much it is whether we provide enough for those who have little." President Franklin Delano Roosevelt.

Does Congress know what they are doing? The US House will have to vote once again on a sweeping tax overhaul after a late-afternoon glitch delayed the plan. US Senate parliamentarian ruled that three provisions in the bill did not comply with strict budget rules and would have to be taken out. Though Senators approved the bill Wednesday morning, now the House fixes the mistake, the GOP $1.5 Trillion bill is a permanent 40% tax cut for corporations, and smaller businesses will also see their tax burden shrink significantly. But what about the rest of US? A sweeping tax plan whose promises face widespread doubts https://apnews.com/fd184b6b1cbf499b954b2916df99db58

When I arrived legally in this great country from Cuba with my family, I learned many American phrases. One, my parents taught me was "I know nothing about politics" and as I grew up and learned how to speak English, I watched my folks work hard to realize the American dream.

We left everything behind in our Caribbean island paradise known as the Pearl of the Antilles, following Fidel Castro's rise with his Russian based authoritarian regime, who many didn't recognize until it was too late.
