The United Nations is supposed to promote global co-operation towards creating and maintaining a new world order. As leaders of the international community gathered in New York City to participate in their annual UN General Assembly, Secretary-General António Guterres tried to put a positive face on these disturbed times.

The State of Sanctuary

A sanctuary city limits cooperation with the federal government's effort to enforce immigration law. Sanctuary cities reduce the fear of deportation and possible family break-up among those who are in the country illegally so that such people will be more willing to report crimes, use health and social services, and enroll their kids in school.

These policies prohibit public employees from questioning people about their immigration status and refuses requests by immigration authorities to detain people beyond their release date if they are jailed for breaking local law.

Legalization of Marijuana

Do pros prevail over cons? The allowance to use cannabis legally is great news but the dose really matters.
The forbidden fruit is sweet. This adage is definitely true about a lot of issues, and marijuana is
not an exception. In order to improve the situation with this drug abuse, the number of the US
states legalized the use of marijuana for adults. To everyone’s surprise, the outcomes after the
first years were rather positive. For instance, in 2014, in the state of Washington, the number of
law violations decreased by 63% while marijuana-related convictions reduced by 81%. A good

Pardon vs Prosecute

@POTUS and The White House continues attacking former FBI Director James Comey by suggesting that he broke the law when he shared with a friend copies of memos he wrote about President Trump.

The times are certainly changing, or so it seems. US Senator, VT Bernie Sanders unveiled his long-anticipated legislation to create a national single-payer health system with the support from 15 Democratic Senate co-sponsors.

Shell shocked coastal communities are trying to respond to death and destruction caused in Texas, Florida and throughout the Caribbean.

In the US, Florida and Texas are some of the largest states with the most hurricane damage as a result of Hurricane drenching rains and the damaging storm surge. This is climate change, not fake news, folks.
