Financial Markets Commentary

“Look up here, I’m in Heaven!” is the opening line of David Bowie’s off Broadway production, Lazarus, which premiered earlier this month two days before the artist’s death. Known for innovating the world of music, Bowie revisited the theater as a creative way to say goodbye as he lost his battle with cancer. Many of the retrospectives on his unique life include his innovation in the financial world too.

US FOREIGN POLICY?

Submitted by ub on

Afghanistan-Why did US announce a 30,000 troop surge to Afghanistan in 2009, only to say they’d be pulled out in 18 months, giving al-Qaida and the Taliban a mental stamina to last at least that long and to plan ahead. Afghanistan is awash in wasted aid programs and corruption. The Taliban is more ascendant in the country than any time since 2001. The Islamic State is increasing its presence, and the U.S. only recently razed a 30-square-mile al-Qaida training camp, which was one of the largest ever to be created.

The US flag will be raised over the American Embassy in Cuba for the first time in 54 years despite mistrust and a call from former President Fidel Castro for the United States to pay millions in reparations.
In fact, it is the Cuban government, which seized billions in properties from private US firms and wealthy Cubans.

Secretary of State John Kerry leads a delegation to the embassy in Habana, including members of Congress, selected Cuban-American entrepreneurs and a large contingent of media, as well as retired Marines who last lowered the flag in January 1961.

Defection is what Cuban athletes did to commemorate 7/26 El 26 De Julio, the Castro Brothers first and foremost national holiday. It also happens to be the first nation al celebration day since re-establishing US/Cuba diplomatic relations. What does that say about human rights and individual freedoms inside the communist island?
