Global Extinction

Submitted by ub on

Massive extinctions have taken place for millions of years, so long ago that life had time to start again from zero, leaving behind creatures that were lost forever in the transformations suffered by a young, inexpert and changing.

We are the most efficient agent of a phenomenon which is as old as life itself: the extinction of species. But we are becoming so efficient in our role as destroyers that, as we begin to understand the interdependent mechanisms of life on earth, we are realizing that perhaps our own activities could end up leading our species along the road to extinction.

CUBA SÍ SEÑOR

As some of you may know, I was born in Cuba and would love to go back someday. Although I have not been allowed to return yet, the news and information content coming out of my beautiful island still interests me. I have now reached out to one government official to once again try to visit.

Economic Forecast

If the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World were not limited to the Mediterranean region, the Great Wall of China would likely make the list. The one that made later lists was mostly built in and after the 14th century but prior walls were built as far back as 200BC. Defending against Mongol raids was the most obvious purpose but trade and immigration control were also reasons why the Han Dynasty built the early earthen barriers so that workers and goods were accounted for and taxed.

These terms may apply to an individual, a small or large group of people. I personally watched this unravel with the latter. Today is Sunday, Jan. 1, the first day of 2017 with what could turn out to be 364 global crazed days to follow.

Washington's Farewell

“Against the insidious wiles of foreign influence (I conjure you to believe me, fellow-citizens) the jealousy of a free people ought to be constantly awake since history and experience prove that foreign influence is one of the most baneful foes of republican government. But that jealousy to be useful must be impartial; else it becomes the instrument of the very influence to be avoided, instead of a defense against it.” US President George Washington's Farewell Address in 1796.
