Censorship occurs when a government or a special interest does not want people to know the truth. It creeps up in different ways, including speech, books, music, films, and other arts, the press, radio, television, and the Internet for a variety of claimed reasons including national security, to control obscenity, and hate speech, to protect vulnerable groups, restrict political or religious views, and to prevent slander and libel.
