GRAMMY award winners Arturo O’Farrill and the Afro Latin Jazz Orchestra open their performance season at Symphony Space with the newest installment of their Jazz Across the Americas series, this time shifting focus to Venezuela.

As always, an incredible roster of instrumentalists and composers will join the 18-piece powerhouse to bring light to a different patch in the woven quilt of jazz. The orchestra will present the world premiere of “Venezuela Unida” by Edward Simon, a Guggenheim Fellow, which was commissioned by the Afro Latin Jazz Alliance specifically for this concert.

US celebrates many wonderful holidays, but on Labor Day Weekend we get together with family and friends to pay tribute to the hardworking men and women workers for whom this day was founded.

The Central Labor Union of New York held the nation’s first Labor Day Parade on September 5, 1882, when 10,000 workers marched from City Hall to Union Square in NYC. They stood together in solidarity, taking time off from work to honor and celebrate the dignity of Labor.

This may be your final opportunity to view an extremely interesting installation. Through September 7, 2015 (extended from August 16)

The crowds this weekend were not as bad as the last time our friends visited. Neighbors Elena and Bill double dated with my wife Yirong and me to enjoy this spectacular eye opening experience. So our advise is to go today or tomorrow, before its too late.

SOS stands for Summer Outing Spectacle. This has been a splendid summer, but too short in my opinion.
However, this weekend weather could not be better in NYC. I hope someone get my message in the bottle.

Although technically there are a couple of weeks left before Fall officially arrives, Labor Day Weekend signals the end of Summer. However, Summer is not over yet and we've got weeks left until September 22, which is the last official day of the season. Everyone, please, stop the rush to Autumn. In case you are counting the hours, here is the official timekeeper.
