Currently, 102 large fires have burned 4.4 million acres in 12 states. More than 26,000 firefighters and support personnel are assigned to incidents throughout the country. Unprecedented weather conditions have created emergency situations near wildfires throughout California, Oregon, Washington, and other states. Almost half of the large fires reported today have evacuation orders in place.

Two hundred thirty-three soldiers from the 14th Brigade Engineer Battalion based out of Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Washington are deployed in support of the August Complex.

A dangerous heatwave hit the western USA region over the Labor Day weekend that has triggered one of the hottest in history.

Temperatures ranged between 110 and 120 degrees Fahrenheit in parts of Los Angeles and in cities like Phoenix and Las Vegas. Excessive heat warnings are in effect across areas in Arizona, Nevada, and much of California.

California temperatures broke records while dozens of wildfires burned, two of which are the second and third-largest fires in state history and are still active.

The USA is an international hotspot as COVID19 continues to spread in the sunbelt, while temperatures soar just about everywhere.

More than 270 million Americans, that's 84 percent of the continental U.S. population feel high temperatures reaching above 90 degrees for at least one day this week, and for most folks, it will last for several days, qualifying for a heatwave.

There will be warmer-than-normal temps along Northern Tier, scattered showers and humidity for South and lots of heat and humidity for all.

The Paris Agreement was signed in 2016 within the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, dealing with greenhouse-gas-emissions mitigation, adaptation, and finance.

POTUS has begun to withdraw the United States from the Paris Agreement. This is the first formal step in a one-year process to exit the global pact to fight climate change. However, defying Trump, American governors who represent over half the U.S. population pledge to uphold the Paris climate agreement.

According to UN scientists, global emissions are reaching record levels and show no sign of peaking. The past four years were the four hottest on record, and Winter temperatures in the Arctic have risen by 3°C since 1990.

Sea levels are rising, coral reefs are dying, and we are starting to see the life-threatening impact of climate change on our health, through air pollution, heatwaves and risks to food security.
