A shooting has one student dead, and others critically wounded in Southern California High School. This is just the latest in a string of school shotting around our nation.

At 7:30 this morning a student gunman opened fire at a Southern California high school, leaving one dead and several others injured before he was taken into custody.

The shooting occurred around 7:30 a.m.

It came too close for me personally, as my daughter lives in the vicinity and my granddaughter goes to school in the area. They are safe, Thank God.

Island For The Dead

America’s largest public cemetery is also the loneliest place in New York City.

Everyone who ends up on Hart Island is because things have gone terribly wrong for them. They died without any money, or family member to claim their body and therefore a stranger in a strange land.

I live on City Island, which is next to it and I have had a rare opportunity to visit Hart Island with restricted access, but fortunately for me, the short visit was a curious one.

Arctic Blast From The Future

Are you prepared for many early blasts of cold arctic air that will consume much of the eastern two-thirds of the U.S. over the next few years, making it feel like you're in the middle of Winter Wonderland? Climate Change is here.

Although we are not officially In Winter yet, these low temperatures can quickly become a cold and harsh time of year, and while hot chocolate and Honey Jack are always great standbys, sometimes the real warmth we need can only be felt inside our hearts.

My late and oldest brother Antonio J Soto III was a US Army veteran. Although he never met his grandkids #AJSotoV or #IsabelSoto, he would have been a loving grandpa and extremely proud of them. Tony was an amazing athlete, known a The Cuban Bullet and considered himself a proud American, who faithfully served the military.

Veterans Day is observed on November 11, to honor all persons who served in the United States Armed Forces. It coincides with other holidays, including Armistice Day.

Mercury Transit

Mercury is the smallest and innermost planet inside our Solar System. Mercury's orbit around the Sun takes only 87.97 days, the shortest of all the planets and is named after the Roman deity Mercury, the messenger of the gods.

Could this be a message? Skywatchers all over the globe got the chance to witness a 'rare celestial event' today, as the planet Mercury passes in front of the sun for the first time in 13 years.

This event, known as a 'transit', was visible from nearly everywhere on Earth with the right equipment - depending on cloud cover.

City Island truly is - A Slice of NYC Paradise. Nearly a couple of hundred Mussel Suckers and Clam Diggers came out to weather the cold and gathered at Trinity Church to participate in The First Foto and Film Festival.

Kudos to Hyonok Kim, Ron Terner, James Breen, Tommy Breen, Scott Ruderman and all the locals who made last night's event a local success.

Feedback from the crowds was that they enjoyed the five films made by, for and about City Islanders, Ms. Kim, Mr.Turner, and The Breen Brothers, who are gems to this coastal community.

Words To Live By

Mantente humilde y muestra amabilidad

Muéstrame un líder humilde y me has mostrado un líder sabio que comprenderá el significado de la amabilidad.

< FYI >

Before Kindness comes Humility.
