Also, the public safety officers and members of the news media spent the night keeping people informed and updated to stay as safe as possible during a horrific night of extremely severe weather. It is at times like this that the most important purpose of our jobs comes out. The National Weather Service says a strong Pacific storm continues to bring heavy precipitation and winds across the western U.S. 

Across the east, the chance for strong to severe thunderstorms later today as low pressure tracks eastward. This system could redevelop into a coastal storm for the mid-Atlantic and Northeast corridors into Tuesday.

Today marks the horrific anniversary when Hurricane Katrina slammed into Waveland, Mississippi, near New Orleans, #USA

The powerful hurricane also hit Louisiana on Aug. 29, 2005, forcing a storm surge that breached a system of levees built to protect the City of New Orleans.

Now watching #hurricane. #Ida’s eye while its rapid intensification continues it is ready for one of the strongest to ever make landfall in #Louisiana.

Hurricane forecasters are warning of excessive rain and flooding in parts of the northern Plains and Mid-Atlantic with thunderstorms. 

After a record-setting start, the 2021 Atlantic hurricane season doesn't show signs of relenting as it enters the peak months ahead.

Tropical Storm Henri keeps spinning in a northwesterly course around 375 miles south, southeast of Cape Hatteras, N.C., which is likely to become the first hurricane to slam New England in 3 decades.

Fred brings heavy rain, possible flash flooding, gusty winds and perhaps a few tornadoes as it tracks north from the upper Ohio Valley into New England Wednesday. Thunderstorms in Arizona and Utah may cause flash floods, especially in slot canyons and arroyos
